Irish Dance Troupe Joins Taiwanese Performers — Tap Rhythms Shine at the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival

With only two days left before the closing of the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi, its diverse and internationally‑minded performance lineup continues to draw massive crowds. Today (14th), the renowned Irish dance company Na Rinceoirí joined Taiwanese dancers from long‑established Irish dance communities to present a powerful tap dance performance. Through rhythm, precision, and stage energy, they created a cross‑cultural dance exchange rich in technique, speed, and impact.

Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang‑liang visited the main stage in the evening to watch the tap performance with local residents. He noted that the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival has delivered spectacular programs every single day. Some visitors have attended as many as twelve times—something he joked deserves a special award. He emphasized that the county government continues to serve everyone with full strength, wishing all visitors joyful trips and safe returns home.

This performance, themed “Irish Legends”, showcased tap dancers’ rapid and precise footwork as they struck the stage in intersecting rhythms. The choreography highlighted the exceptional control, speed shifts, and stability that define Irish tap dance.

As layers of rhythm built toward the climax, the dancers’ coordinated steps and powerful beats transformed the lantern festival stage into an energetic arena filled with movement and tension.

The collaboration was not only a display of dance artistry but also a cultural dialogue between two island nations. As Irish traditional rhythms met the physical expression of Taiwanese dancers, the performance shifted from rhythmic competition to artistic resonance—becoming a shared language connecting cultures across distance.

Beyond showcasing brilliant lantern art, the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival integrates international‑level performances to create a stage that merges art, culture, and urban vitality. While viewing lanterns, audiences are also immersed in artistic expression from around the world, creating unforgettable memories in nights woven with lights and rhythm.

Due to the large crowds today, Magistrate Weng reminded everyone to exit slowly and avoid pushing. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the county government and the people of Chiayi for the public’s support and understanding, and gave special thanks to all staff working behind the scenes. He emphasized that the festival’s many touching and joyful moments are possible only because of the collective efforts of so many people.
