The TECH WORLD Pavilion from Expo Osaka Returns Home to Chiayi at the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival

The TECH WORLD Pavilion, which drew widespread international attention and received overwhelmingly positive feedback during Expo Osaka, is set to return to Taiwan in response to public anticipation and to extend its global achievements. With the support of the Executive Yuan, it was officially announced today (4th) that the pavilion will be showcased once again at the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi, open to the public from March 2 to March 15, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to step into this pavilion that once shone brightly on the world stage.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the TECH WORLD Pavilion marked Taiwan’s first independently realized world-class pavilion overseas, completed entirely in-house—from planning and design to engineering and operations. During its 184-day exhibition period, the pavilion attracted over one million visitors, earned international awards, and gained remarkable popularity across Japanese social media platforms and among international guests. It successfully showcased Taiwan’s integrated strengths in technology, design, and culture to the world.

During its run in Osaka, many Taiwanese citizens expressed a strong desire to experience the TECH WORLD Pavilion back home. MOEA stated that this public enthusiasm became a key driving force behind the pavilion’s return to Taiwan. Despite limited time and budget constraints, the Ministry actively coordinated with relevant agencies and project teams to make the reappearance of the TECH WORLD Pavilion at the Taiwan Lantern Festival possible, allowing these world-class exhibition achievements to be shared with a broader domestic audience.

MOEA further explained that nearly 30 potential sites across northern, central, and southern Taiwan were evaluated. Given that the Taiwan Lantern Festival is a nationwide celebration and shares a festive, joyful atmosphere with Expo Osaka, the decision was made to recreate the TECH WORLD Pavilion within this major event, inviting more people to participate and celebrate the Lantern Festival together.

The TECH WORLD Pavilion presented in Chiayi will carry forward the core vision and highlights of its Osaka exhibition. Through immersive experiences, it will present Taiwan’s overall image of technological innovation, cultural diversity, and industrial excellence, allowing visitors to relive the moments that once amazed audiences worldwide—this time on familiar soil.

Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang remarked that for many years, Taiwan’s development train seemed to pass Chiayi by, while the county quietly fulfilled its role as the nation’s granary. This exhibition marks a long-awaited opportunity for Chiayi to be seen by all of Taiwan.

The 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi will feature numerous highlights. The TECH WORLD Pavilion is expected to attract large crowds and, more importantly, bring a sense of pride and honor to local residents. The public is warmly invited to plan a trip to Chiayi, where its mountains, coastline, and cherry blossoms await.
