The mechanical art circus troupe Planète Vapeur from France is set to make a stunning appearance at the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival, bringing its signature work, the Flying White Horse Show, to Chiayi for the first time. Featuring a massive mechanical installation combined with contemporary circus vocabulary, live music, and light‑and‑sound technology, the performance unveils a grand and fantastical artistic spectacle against the city’s night sky.
The Chiayi County Bureau of Culture and Tourism held an unveiling press event today (8th), attracting festival visitors eager to catch a first glimpse of the spectacular mechanical flying white horse and the acrobatic circus performers. County Magistrate Weng Chang‑liang attended the event and stated that the Taiwan Lantern Festival continues to amaze audiences. Following last night’s Team Taiwan Parade, which reached a peak of excitement, the upcoming Flying White Horse Show is expected to spark another wave of enthusiasm.
The mechanical flying white horse featured in this performance stands 10 meters tall with a body length of 11 meters, equipped with 7‑meter mechanical wings capable of unfolding in motion. As the silver‑white steel wings gradually open, it descends like a mythical celestial creature emerging from the night sky—a breathtaking and majestic scene. Built upon a core structure of precision mechanical engineering, the work integrates dynamic light‑shadow programming and spatial sound design with real‑time performances by circus acrobats, live musicians, and vocalists, allowing steel structures and human artistry to intertwine in a dance that embodies contemporary aesthetics—balancing technological rationality with artistic emotion.
The Flying White Horse Show will be presented from March 9 to March 14 on the County Government Stage at the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival, with three performances scheduled each night, each lasting approximately 30 minutes. For detailed performance times and related information, please refer to the official website of “2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi.”
According to the Bureau of Culture and Tourism, inviting an international mechanical art team to perform in Taiwan symbolizes Chiayi’s openness to the global stage. As the steel wings unfold in the night sky, they not only illuminate the County Government Stage but also signify the positive convergence of Taiwan’s artistic energy with the international community—showcasing Chiayi’s cultural vision and imaginative power as it embraces innovation and connects with the world.
Magistrate Weng added that the flying white horse traveled two months by ship from France before arriving in Taiwan. Experiencing such a unique cultural performance in Chiayi will be an unforgettable experience that surely will not disappoint.
