Exciting features of the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi continue to be unveiled. This evening (1st), the large‑scale interactive installation “Magnus of the Sky” in the Industrial Light Corridor underwent rehearsal. Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang‑Liang, Deputy Magistrate Liu Pei‑Tung, and Director of the Department of Economic Development Lee Ya‑Ping were also present to observe the performance.
The Industrial Light Corridor takes Chiayi‑based enterprises as its core curatorial theme, integrating innovative technology, multiverse concepts, and green sustainability. Through light‑and‑shadow art, it creates an immersive experience representing the city’s industrial transformation.
The large interactive installation “Magnus of the Sky” is sponsored by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and co‑created by faculty and students from National Taiwan University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Tainan National University of the Arts, China Medical University, and Shih Chien University. Incorporating Chiayi’s drone industry, the work breaks away from traditional long‑distance pixel‑formation drone displays and instead adopts diverse performance forms including innovative laser drones, contemporary dance, and projection imagery.
Associate Professor Lo Ho‑Lin of the Graduate Institute of Animation and Film Art at Tainan National University of the Arts stated that a total of 20 drones were used for the performance. The team consists of around 40 members, including 4 dancers, 15 drone operators, 15 lighting, projection, and audio technicians, as well as 3 puppeteers.
To reduce the weight of the giant puppet, the design team filled it with helium, lowering its weight to about 10 kilograms. However, Professor Lo noted that in strong winds, the puppet’s effective weight may exceed 20 kilograms. Therefore, the team conducts safety briefings before each performance and adjusts according to weather conditions, making flexible decisions based on the day’s situation.
